Connected Intersections Program (CIP)

Project Name: Connected Intersections Program (CIP)
Project Team: Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I-4) Consortium and the Connected Vehicles Pooled Fund Study
Timeframe: July 2020 – December 2021
Sponsor(s): Connected Vehicles Pooled Fund Study
Synopsis:
  • To implement connected traffic signal-based safety and mobility applications, equipped vehicles will need to be confident in the information provided via the Roadside Unit (RSU) (e.g., timely, accurate, secure and nationally consistent).
  • The Connected Intersections Program (CIP) is a collaborative effort with the Connected Vehicle Pooled Fund Study (CV PFS), in coordination with the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), to develop verification tools and test procedures that will enable Infrastructure Owner Operators (IOOs) to ensure proper implementation of connected signalized intersections.
  • Project emphasis is verification of Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT), intersection geometry (MAP) and Global Positioning System (GPS) Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services RTCM position correction broadcasts. The initial application focus is Red Light Violation Warning (RLVW).
